Liberal Arts Challenge – Science

Two months ago, while reflecting on poetry and other arts inclusion in my high school science classroom, I decided to try out an old idea I had of doing an art challenge. I termed it a “Liberal Arts Challenge” because my students frequently don’t understand the meaning of the term. So I get to explain the vocabulary and have a different approach to science topics all at the same time.

It’s a great introductory activity, and a happy side result is that a poem one of my students wrote during a five minute exercise took a prize at a subsequent language arts fair. I have a bunch of follow up ideas for the future, and will elaborate on them more after I finish reading the Layered Curriculum book by Nunley that I mentioned in my previous post.
